Scott Walker's Proposal

Wisconsin’s Governor, Scott Walker, made a proposal to limit collective bargain for most public employees. This proposal made by Governor Walker would limit the conditions of work. I think this proposal shouldn’t be enacted because it will create more protests and strikes in Wisconsin since it violates some of the worker’s right.

First, it violates the human right because all workers have the right to collective bargain. Collective bargain ensures that their voice is heard and dignity be protected in their workplace. Residents in Wisconsin are protesting that this proposal will cripple education, leave the sick untreated, turn out on the poor out in the cold and ignore the state’s neediest residents. Some people think that a broke state is a state with many needs.

This proposal definitely should be taken out because its causing more protest.
People should have their right to collectively bargain because it is a worker’s right. In addition, there has been an increase in police presence in the capital.

Change

Workers have been dedicating time to improve economically and workplace. They gained rights through strikes and protests. Some rights are provided by Federal Employment Compensation Act, Civil Rights Act of 1964, Wagner-Peyser act of 1933, and USDOL.

The Civil Rights Act, Wagner-Peyser Act, and USDOL provides help for the Workers. The Civil Right Act of 1964 prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, and national origin. The Wagner- Peyser Act of 1933, but amended in 1988 created a nationwide system that provides job seeker and employer labor exchanges services, and the USDOL prevent injuries and protect the health of workers. All this three help workers but the problem that needs to be change is the way that some people think or act because discrimination and racism is still going on. People could end discrimination if they look others equally.

The Civil Rights Act, Wagner-Peyser Act, and USDOL all have their unique proper help for laborers. Still, the only problem that needs to change is the discrimination towards workers. Again, that problem could change if we all see each other equally.

Struggle and Activism of the Laborers

The Laborers have resisted many discrimination for being women, black, immigrants, or in other words look as an inferior group. They still fight back by making strikes and mobs. mostly of the strikes that laborers made were non violent strikes.

Laborers or workers had many discrimination problems thanks to racism. Still they've learn and believe now in style that Martin Luther King Jr. striked. Luther King believed in a non violent protest. An example of a non violent protest from the laborers is the 1989 strike of the United Mine Workers. They used non violen protest to get a contrar after nine months of protest. Many have learned that they don't need violence to get what they want, but worker won less than they loss in protest.

Laborers have to struggle through protest to get what they want. They were less wins then loss but they still protest to get their rights. Many believed in non violent protests like Martin Luther King Jr.

Worker's Right- History

Group of workers have existed in U.S. since like always, but slaves where the first laborers or workers without  rights. Workers have prosted and make strike since 1600s, and they have the right to do it. Slaves were treated unfairly but they have rebelled time in time to own their .

The group of workers have been so strong that goverment troops have crush out the strikes the workers made. First strike was recorded in 1619 in Jamestown colony. Also, there has been women protest for they to be workers and have equal right at work as men. Workers now in day make up 48% of US population, the other 42% are unemployed people. Also, thanks to unemployed people there is protest because they have been fired unfairly o those who have jobs and aren't paid fairly.

The right of workers is important as any other right. It shows how important and equal they are to others. In addition, protest or strike will be form if they don't have the right as worker.

My opinion

Well shaelynn's blog was very informative on the assimilation for indians. It had useful information that I could use for my blog for example the haircuts that male indians should have. I did understand her blog perfectly.

Jonathan garcia's blog post about Indians was kind of depressing starting with its title "the lifeless road of indians". It looks depressing and sad but it kind of the truth because the struggle alot to get a life.

I find irelis essay very informative and with Alot of details. She talks about life as indians during assimilation and giving up their land to survive.

Juan's essay about indian extermination talks about how the white americans tty to extinguish indian race. Cruel?yeah but its the truth and juan did a great job informing readers about this situation.

Carolina also tell about life of the indians how bad it went to them. She was informative with the events and date.

Indians during assimilation

Assimilation for the Indians began in  the 1800s. The American goverment encourage Native Americans to assimilate their culture or if not they were enemies. The Indian stereotype need to be change because according the white Americans they were savages and hostil. Still the truth is that they were the contrary, but the white Americans wanted power. So the Indians needed to establish to the American life, religion, language, stereotype and jobs to have benefits.

First step for assimilation was that the Indians need forget about their own culture, religion, and to have a christian name. In school, indian children were to go and if not they were kidnapped. Kids were taught to hate Indian related stuff. Indian people were to follow Protestant religion and attend school. If they practiced their Indian religion they were punished or persecuted. A good example would be Charles Eastman.

Second would be the Clothing for the Indians during assimilation. The Indian Clothe was different from the Americans obviously, it was more wild and free type of clothing. The American clothing was more like European, if you had money then you were dress elegant and it all depends on your job also. So Indian women wore dresses and male wear poor clothes.

Third would be jobs that Indians had. Well maybe not all had jobs or important jobs. Also many didnt finish college. The kind of jobs that Indians had were maybe farming or helpers in stored. Many didnt work because of the welfare that goverment gave. Also, alcoholism destroyed their lives to keep going in ssearch of some better future.

Assimilitation for the Indians had to follow strict rules to survive in American colonies. Indians have totally change their lifestyles to be accepted in another new society and have a home most importantly. In addition, the alcohol was the destroyer of the life of Indians.

Arizona Enacts Stringent Law on Immigration- NYTimes.com

                                          http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/24/us/politics/24immig.html
  1. What do you think about this?
I think that the law that Gov. Jan Brewer signed was kind of hard and strict. Now someone who looks "illegal"  will be send back.
  2. How does this affect your opinion of immigration today?
This affect my opinion by supporting more the way I think about Goverment of Arizona are like. The Goverment of Arizona is being so selfish and patriotic

     3.  What should be done?

I think that the law should be canceled. People are looking for better lives not to ruin U.S.

First person narrative or journal entry- Italian

Dear Journal,

Only two days have passed and this sea got me sick. Everything here stinks and were all dirty. I miss Italy and my family but I am looking forward for this new life. I can't wait to get to see the true "American Dream". Still it won't be that good with out Papa and Mama and my little brother Tony.

So as soon as I get to America I will get a job to paid tickets for them. Hope everything will be fine.
I decided to move on I can't leave in the conditions I lived in Italy. Poverty led us to nothing in Italy. Natural disasters ruin all my agricultural work. All I want is a better life.

I decided to live in Northeast of America. I feel like a traitor, like if left or abandoned my home, my Italy. Everything I had, my past, my problems are left behind, because I am in search of a better life.

In this like I said everything stinks were all dirty and sweating a lot. This sun got my skin burned and hope this food will be enough for the next few days. I trust in God that he will give me a new life a new beginning. America here I come!!!

Arrivederci my Italy!

Italy a country in Europe with its unique culture that we see since their immigration to US. We see Italian culture everywhere in Italian restaurants, commercials, movies etc.Their immigration made a big influence in the American culture.

There are many reasons for Italian immigration, for example Poverty which there wasn't enough money for food. Another reason is the overpopulation which many people where born and little death. Also, another reason are the natural disasters that led farmers to misery.

There journey to US was surprising because a small portion of Italian came to US. In few years they Italian immigration grew. They made a 1.5% of US population. Italians became the largest foreign group in United States.

There life in US where kind of harsh. Italians had the dirty jobs for lower payment. They where overcrowded and filthy. Later on, the became clean and healthy people. Also, they had better jobs like shoemakers, fruit sellers, fisherman and many others.

Thanks to their immigration to U.S. I have learned many things about them. I have learned about their unique food, language, and other parts of their culture. Also, it wasn't easy for Italians search for better life in U.S.  They get little with the hard work they have done to get a better life.
